چکیده

B. coli, meningococcus, and B. typhosus have been cultivated in a diffused broth medium, prepared by immersing cellophane bags containing saline into nutrient broth. An abundant growth occurred inside the bags, while the outside broth remained sterile. Under these conditions, the production of the active principles of the phenomenon of local skin reactivity to bacterial filtrates has been consistent. When the culture filtrates so obtained were redialyzed against saline, active preparations were obtained which were practically free from non-specific ingredients.

Chemical Investigations on the Active Principles of the Phenomenon of Local Skin Reactivity to Bacterial Filtrates Iii. Application of Dialysis to the Production of the Active Principles in Fluid Media*

I t is known that the yield of staphylococcus toxin in plain broth and other fluid media is poor (1). The use of solid or semisolid agar media appears necessary for producing active preparations. Recently, however, McClean (1) was able to obtain potent toxins by the use of fluid media diffused through cellophane bags. The surface of the cellophane membrane appeared to play a r61e similar to tha...

Phenomer on of Local Skin Reactivity to Serratia

Bacterial filtrates capable of producing the phenomenon of local tissue reactivity also elicit hemorrhagic necrosis and regression of transplantable malignant tumors. The destruction of the tumors is obtained by a single intravenous injection, no preparatory intratumoral injection being necessary (25a, 11, 26, 7, 3, 23, 10, and others). There exists considerable evidence that the same bacterial...

Grading of Local Skin Reactivity to Bacterial Filtrates

In this paper there are described methods for grading the local skin reactivity induced by bacterial filtrates. The grading is accomplished by titration of the skin-preparatory factors; and by studies on the duration of ensuing reactivity. It was found that the duration of reactivity depends upon the mode of preparation of filtrates and the microorganisms employed. Thus, it lasts for 96 hours w...

Spontaneous and Acquired Active Immunity to the Phenomenon of Local Skin Reactivity to Bacterial Filtrates

Spontaneous active immunity to the phenomenon of local skin reactivity to bacterial filtrates has been demonstrated. In one experiment, the immunity was non-specific, while in others it appeared limited to one or two bacterial species. Intradermal vaccination of rabbits with bacterial filtrates induced active immunity to the phenomenon. The specificity of this immunity was tested with graded am...
